Well I'm one week into the challenge and I thought I'd update you on my progress.
I'd never heard of Script Frenzy prior to two weeks ago. But the thought of writing a one-hundred page screenplay in the month of April was an intriguing idea. It felt like it was something I just needed to do. So
I signed up for the challenge without giving much thought to what story I would actually tell.
I brainstormed an idea but I wasn't sure it would work.
I've think I might tell a love story that starts and ends at a blood donor clinic. It would be a sad story where the guy metaphorically gets sucked dry by the girl. It could work. The theme would be about how much of ourselves we give to those around us. Giving too much can be counterproductive and this poor guy is going to learn that the hard way.
I gave the project a working title of "Bled Dry" but other than that, I still knew very little of the story. I wasn't worried about it though. I'm not the type of writer than plans out his stories before hand. I don't outline or plot.
I just get an idea, give it some thought, and jump in and write. I find that the story just naturally comes to life this way. It's a style that works for me and I plan on sticking to it.
So
I started writing the story and got six pages in before I realized it wasn't going to work. I threw out those pages and started again. I changed the occupation and age of the main character and things started flowing.
Here's what I've had to say about the process on
Twitter for this first week;
I'm starting Script Frenzy today. My goal is to write 7 pages today. Wish me luck!9:54 AM Apr 1st via web
Should be writing, better get back to it. Not sure if it's a good enough opening. It establishes character though and I've started so that's good11:10 AM Apr 1st via web
I wrote 6 pgs but I think I'm going to throw them out and start again.I don't think that's the story that I want to tell for this screenplay.1:06 PM Apr 1st via web
I just wrote a new 6 pg start to my screenplay. It's going in a much better direction now. 2:09 PM Apr 1st via web

(1/2) . The setting isn't officially in Hamilton but Red Hill Valley has 2 mentions so far. First as the small, local, library...about 16 hours ago via web
(2/2) and then as a trail that the two main characters go for a run. scriptfrenzy page count 31
Well, that should give you some insight as to my creative process thus far.
As far as the story goes, the main character has met his love interest and things are just starting to get serious between them. It's going to be interesting to see how their relationship develops from here.
I'm enjoying this challenge and I appreciate all the support you have shown me here on the blog, on
Twitter, and on the
Script Frenzy site.
Thanks a lot!
Go to the

Hi Hilary,
ReplyDeleteThis week is going to be even more "frenzied." I have so much on the go that I hope I will actually be able to find the time to write.
I am committed to accomplishing this goal and finishing my script in time though so I will make it happen.
Thanks a lot for the support.
